Last post! (9)

~ A web based tool I might use while teaching is the music-creating program Finale. It allows you to write music and play it back so that you can hear the rythms and chords you ahve created. It is most helpful when writing percussion scores because drums and percussion instrumets do not rely on pitch (minus the keyboard-type instrumnets) and you can still hear your musical ideas with the computer genreated sounds, (the computer sounds are similar to those on an electric keyboard when you change from the piano sound to a different one)
Finale is aprogram that must be purchased, but here is the website if you want to read about it and it's different features. http://www.finalemusic.com/finale/home.aspx
~I would most like to learn to use a grading program because all teachers need to use them and be familliar with them. They are extremely helpful to teachers and allow them to enter and calculate grades much faster than by hand in an ordinary grade book.
~I am sure that I will learn to use a grading program either in a class later on as I move toward my major, or when I get my first teaching job and its forced apon me to learn it. Thjere might also bea teahcing seminars that help new teachers get accustomed to these programs.

Post 8

~I don't have my book with me so I'll add some stuff about chapter 8 later...
~well, I haven't learned anything new yet, but I think we're going to start our final projects today, so I'm sure I'll learn something. I've never heard of this nicenet thing we're gonna use, so I guess that's what I'll have learned by 4:30 ish today.
~Last night I spent 4 hours with my friend Eric and a set of twins I've gotten to know through our shared Chem class. We went to tropical smoothie after chem and sat in the kitchen of our dorm (Cawthon) chatting with our RA till past midnight. We ate oreos and M&M dipped in peanut butter....seriously, best desert ever! It was a lot of fun, our RA rocks (yay Kayla!!).

Post 7....at 2am!

~Ch. 7 discusses software/web evaluating rubrics to help teacher determine the effectiveness of software/web; it mentions the use of Inspiration, which we used in this class a couple weeks ago; it gives lots of examples of evaluations and shows you how to create one for your students, we did that last week, too.
~Since I did the last post 2 mins ago, I haven't learned any new skills. I am looking forward to becoming familiar with excel, though.
~Still nothing to say of great importance....it's late so I should go to sleep, but I'm in the middle of a discussion about my boyfriend with my best friend, and this could take hours. He's being a bit of a terd, so there's lots to talk about....newho, ttfn! (yes, I'm in college and I just quoted Tigger....so what?)

post,well...6!

~In Chapter 6, I learned what an ASSURE model is(an educational instructional model) and how models like it are used to help teachers develop technological lessons; it talks about curriculums and how technology is incorporated into them.
~I learned how to use excel today (wait, yesterday..its past midnight). I didn't know how to do that. I have to say, though....that function thing is kind of annoying....and its supposed to be good at guessing what cells you want it to use.....it wasn't for me.
~umm, I don't have anything else to add, really. I had a starbucks chai this morning, it was fantastic! and.....umm....thats it, sorry I'm boring...its late.

Post 5

~Chapter 5 discusses the difference between multimedia (more than 1 media) and digital media (uses interaction). It also discusses the different tools you can use in PowerPoint, like sounds and graphics. It briefly mentions the growing technology in electronic books, and how you can keep an entire library of books on an iPod. There is a section on online courses in high schools and colleges, and the growing use of education software in every classroom.

~I've learned how to use PowerPoint since last time. I never had to do a PowerPoint presentation in high school, so I wasn't very familiar with the program. Now, I'm confident in my abilities to create PowerPoints and I will use them in my career if need be.
~umm, So it's entirely too hot outside....but the rain on Sunday was awesome, lovely nap time. Its fun to curl up in bed with a book and some Starbucks...;-) thank you, Katie!!

post....4!

~Chapter 4 discusses the factors involved in buying a computer and updating your old one. It also talks about how a cumputer reads information in the 100110001 format.
~umm...well I already said that I thought the training and practice tests for word were rediculous because they were so long....thats all I can think of...
~I haven't learned anything new since yesterday, when I did post 3, so I guess my answer is still the same to 'what did you learn and how will it be useful to your career' But, I think the program that will help me in my a career (as a band director) the most is a program called Finale, its a program that lets you creat music and play it back so you can hear what it sound like, its quite sweet. anyway...I guess thats it. ttfn

post 3

~chapter 3 talks about the different kinds of application software, such as microsoft word, ad how each has its own specific purposes and its own special features. It talks about word, mostly, and how it has almost an endless supply of things you can add to you document to make it creative and fun along with informative. It also explains the advantages of these software programs to help people with special needs, like those who are dissabled.

~Since the last posting, I've learned some pretty nifty stuff on word. The training taught me how to make cute little bullets and how to print labels(should I need to). I think these will be helpful in my career because teachers use word very often so they should know all the ins and out of it.And teachers (especially elementry) use labels and pictures to help their students be focused and organized.

~the training and practice test on word took me 3 and 2 hours, respectively...I thought that was a bit much....why are they so long? It's nearly impossible to sit still and stare at a computer screen through 120 tasks on word......just though I'd say that. I feel better now.
I find it nifty that the book has the chapters color-coded, very good idea...
